Who We Are

If you would like to contact New York Neighbors for American Values, you can reach the coordinator, Natalie Chap at 212-691-6421 or nchap@commoncause.org.

New York Neighbors for American Values works in New York City to promote and defend the constitutional and American values of religious freedom, diversity and equality while fighting against anti-Muslim bigotry and discrimination against our neighbors no matter what their national origin or religion. We came together to respond to the manufactured controversy surrounding the building of an Islamic Community Center in lower Manhattan and continue to work together to diffuse the prejudice and confusion that has led many individuals, even those that profess goodwill towards American Muslims, to believe that there is some basis for discrimination against this or any community.

The more than 130 organizations and thousands of individuals involved in the coalition represent a very broad swath of our city’s diverse population, including good government, religious, interfaith, service, advocacy, neighborhood, labor and professional organizations.

We are New Yorkers from all walks of life. We are neighbors. The following organizations have endorsed our coalition statement. Your organization can sign on at the bottom of this page.

As Americans and as New Yorkers we are stronger when we work together. New York Neighbors for American Values embraces the American constitutional values of religious freedom, diversity, and equality. We stand together and rebuff the crude stereotypes meant to frighten and divide us.

New York Neighbors for American Values is proud to include Muslim-American community members and institutions in our community, as we do all communities working to strengthen the fabric of our vibrant city. We reject the idea that any neighborhood in our great City is off-limits to any particular community. We welcome the effort of Muslim New Yorkers to build institutions that serve their communities and our diverse City.
